It Looks Like Warner Bros. Is Ready To Renew Velma For A 2nd Season

Velma, an adult-oriented prequel series to Scooby-Doo airing on HBO Max, appears to have been renewed for a second season, and an official renewal announcement is anticipated to be made in the near future.

Warner Bros. is currently developing the second season of Velma, and the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR) places the launch window for the new season in the year 2023. “the industry-curated public registry of media assets” is what the EIDR is for those who aren’t familiar with it. Notably, for an EIDR user to register a new asset, that user must be connected to a third party that the EIDR system itself has designated as having the “Registrant” role.

The First Season Of Velma Is Currently In Production

Mindy Kaling, a former cast member of The Office, lends her voice to the title character in the animated series Velma, which airs on HBO Max. Velma Dinkley, the resident bookworm of Mystery, Inc., gets a new backstory in the form of an origin tale in the adult animated series. Additionally, the character is re-imagined as being of South Asian ancestry in the series.

The voice cast for Velma also includes Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones, Constance Wu as Daphne Blake, and Sam Richardson as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, in addition to Kaling, who plays the role of Velma. In February of 2021, HBO Max gave Velma the green light to go straight to series after the pilot episode. The show ultimately presented the first two episodes of its debut season on January 12, which was earlier this month.

It would not be all that shocking if Warner Bros. and HBO Max decided to get the production of Velma’s second season underway sooner rather than later. Velma’s first season premiered to solid viewership numbers, even though the show has been met with mixed reviews from media professionals and has been found to be divisive among viewers.

In point of fact, the violent Scooby-Doo prequel can boast about having the highest number of viewers on its first day of release than any other original HBO Max animated series. In a tweet in which she broke the news, Kaling expressed her gratitude to all who had watched the show. However, it is still unknown if or not HBO Max will make the renewal of Velma for a second season known to the public.

The following is the official logline that can be found for Velma on HBO Max: “Jinkies! As seen through the eyes of the gang’s beloved bespectacled investigator Velma, this boisterous reinterpretation of the Scooby-Doo franchise unravels the mystery beginnings of Mystery, Inc.” The show’s first season will consist of ten episodes when it premieres. After the first two episodes of the series have been shown, additional attacks will continue to air weekly in pairs until February 9 of this year.

HBO Max subscribers can now watch the first two episodes of the first season of Velma right now. New episodes are typically released every Thursday.
