Ree Drummond made the decision to alter her life precisely one year ago. She has lost nearly 55 pounds since then. She recently wrote on her blog that “it hasn’t changed my life itself.”
She has a busy daily routine that includes running a ranch, sh*ting her cooking show, developing cookbooks and other goods, and being a wife and “weird mom.”
The Pioneer Woman spoke candidly to Entertainment Tonight in a September 2021 interview on the turning point in her life. “I basically hit rock bottom eating chips and salsa one night. I went a little overboard,” she admitted.
She immediately made the decision that it was time for a change, but she argued that it had nothing to do with her weight. “I feel great and that’s what matters,” she said.
“The scale was a gauge for me that I was heading in the right direction. And it was never about I have to lose this amount, it’s really about how I feel.”
So how did she manage to do it? She claimed, “I didn’t use a trainer, I didn’t do Keto or Paleo or follow an official diet, I didn’t eat specialty foods, and I didn’t do intermittent fasting,”

Portion Control
Although it might seem like a straightforward response, Drummond claims that understanding portion control has revolutionized her life. She complained that the answer, “smaller portions,” was uninspired and uninteresting. “But for me, it has held true without a doubt.”
She discovered how “off the rails” her previous years’ portions were during her voyage. “During the five-month period I weighed my food and counted calories, I really broke the spell of eating too much volume and during this process, I trained my body to get used to smaller—well, I should say more normal—portions,” Ree remarked.
Ree eats all the great foods she wants now that she has trained her body, but she claims she is “satisfied with much less.”
All Things in Moderation
Adopting significant life changes, like reducing weight, necessitates adopting a radical way of life adjustments. But Ree doesn’t stop herself from loving and craving what she wants.
The Pioneer Woman said, “I knew I had to eliminate alcohol entirely during the initial/intense stage of my weight loss, but beginning in the summertime, I started having a social drink or two here and there,”
Lemon and lime juice are her go-to drinks, even though she avoids fruity and sugary drinks like margaritas.

“My two favorite drinks are Ranch Water and White Wine Spritzer,” she stated. These are fantastic low-calorie substitutes for that crowd-pleaser fruity selections. Drummond also noted that “they also spread out the calories more: In other words, you can have two drinks for the calories of one.” That is a win-win situation!
Weigh Yourself
Ree is aware that using a scale every day “can be triggering to some,” but it was crucial to her personal path. She admitted that her weight reduction journey was never about shedding pounds and that getting on a scale is “not about fixating over every pound and ounce.”
Drummond said, “I’ve just found that when excess weight has crept on through the years, it has happened when I’ve chosen not to weigh myself.” “I willfully hadn’t weighed myself because I never wanted to know.”
It’s simple to dismiss it as “just a few pounds,” she said if you don’t know what the scale shows. Ree now weighs herself first thing in the morning as part of her healthy lifestyle and logs it to watch trends.
It is not a shift in lifestyle.
“I don’t want to change my lifestyle. I just want to wear smaller jeans,” I just want to wear more petite jeans. Drummond prefers “perspective change” because she always thought the phrase “lifestyle change” implied her everyday existence would be turned upside down.
“I experienced a seismic shift in my perspective of everything I’ve mentioned: Portion size, calories, daily movement, sitting vs. standing, protein percentage, muscle mass, wasted calories, and so on,” she wrote.
“During the first five months (and in the ensuing months) of my journey.” “I think about all of those things totally differently now.” She claims that her daily life is still the same as it has always been as she looks back.
She chuckled, “I still have cow manure in my yard. “Only difference between before and after is that I’ve lost weight. Aside from that, my daily life really hasn’t changed all that much.”
