After being kidnapped and shot outside of his Atlanta brewery, hip-hop musician Fish Scales is on the mend, his reps said Thursday. The members of Nappy Roots and the Atlantucky Brewery crew are reporting that rapper Scales (Melvin Adams) is in stable condition after an armed robbery and gunshot wound,” Rhythm Communications claimed in a press statement. At approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Atlanta police responded to a robbery call and located a 42-year-old man victim who identified himself as a customer of Atlantucky Brewery. He described to authorities that he and the brewery’s proprietor were robbed at gunpoint by two individuals as they walked to the establishment’s parking garage.
The suspect told the police that he ran away on foot during the altercation, but that Melvin Adams, the owner of the brewery, was taken, hostage. Adams is usually known as Fish Scales for the Grammy-nominated duo Nappy Roots. The brewery is jointly owned by musicians of the hip-hop group.
After receiving complaints of excessive force, the Atlanta Police Department has decided to release body camera footage from a nearby neighborhood where residents were attempting to flee the city. According to reports, the suspects pummelled Adams before forcing him into his car and driving him into Hapeville, a nearby town. Upon the suspect’s arrival in Hapeville, he allegedly attempted to leave but was shot in the leg.
“Once he had an opportunity he tried to make a run for it,” Capt. Christian Hunt said, according. “What we learned is the suspects seized him and that’s when he got shot.”

According to a news statement from Rhythm Communications, Skinny (William Hughes), an Atlantucky business partner and a fellow member of Nappy Roots, expressed his relief that Scales, a brother and business partner, was unharmed and is on the mend.
“I am so grateful for the Atlanta community and all the support we’ve had since the incident and am hoping for a rapid recovery and can’t wait to see you all at Atlantucky or on tour. Please maintain your Nap-Time state.”
A suburb in Atlanta wants to break away from the city because of rising crime rates; they call it a “war zone.” The news announcement said that the brewery did not suffer damage during the theft and the suspects did not grab any monies from the institution.
