Predator 2: Plot , Cast, and Did The Sequel Sought New Prey?

Predator 2

Predator 2

Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, Maria Conchita Alonso, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Peter Hall star in Predator 2, a 1990 American science fiction action film written and directed by brothers Jim and John Thomas.

Continuing Kevin Peter Hall’s Predator role from 1987’s Predator, this is the sequel to the Predator franchise’s first film. It occurs ten years after the events of the original Predator film and takes place in Los Angeles, where a disillusioned police officer and his associates are trying to combat a highly superior extraterrestrial hunter known as the Predator.

The picture was widely panned when it was released in theatres. As compared to the previous film’s $98 million gross, which was made on a far reduced production budget, this one brought in $57 million worldwide. Over time, the film’s critical reception improved, thanks in large part to Danny Glover’s performance, direction, and score, and it has now developed a cult following.

The Predator would not appear again on screen until 2004’s Alien vs. Predator and 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, in which the franchise crossed over. In 2010, Predators was released, followed by The Predator in 2018 and Prey in 2022, both of which are prequels to the original Predator film.

Predator 2 Plot

In 1997, a heat wave and a territorial war between Colombian and Jamaican drug traffickers plague Los Angeles. Observing a battle between both the police, Jamaicans, and Colombians, a Predator observes Lieutenant Michael R. Harrigan charge into the firefight to rescue two wounded cops and force the Colombians back into their hideouts.

Harrigan, detectives Leona Cantrell, Danny Archuleta, and the Predator, who attacked the Colombians, entered the hideout against orders and discovered the bodies of the Colombians who had been slain. Shooting from the roof, Harrigan sees the camouflaged Predator but dismisses it as a result of the severe heat and his acrophobia, which are making him hyperventilate. Special Agent Peter Keyes and Detective Jerry Lambert, two of Harrigan’s newest team members, confront him at the station after he disobeyed orders and refused to report to work.

Later that night, a group of Jamaicans break into the penthouse of a Colombian drug lord and kill him before the Predator kills them all. While on the way, Harrigan’s crew noticed a number of striking resemblances between the scene of the current crime and that of the earlier Colombian atrocity.

Underrated Sequel ‘Predator 2’ Sought New Prey

After a strong showing at Comic-Con, the newest Predator film, Prey, has received a lot of favorable buzzes and looks set to breathe new life into the series. Comanche Nation’s environment hints that Prey’s extraterrestrial hunter isn’t hunting out military personnel for sport as in the Predator sequels.

When it comes to tone and location, that’s not a new thing for the brand. In 1990, Predator 2 relocated the action from the jungle to a semi-futuristic Los Angeles with a new cast. It’s worth searching out Predator 2 because it has a strong cast, plenty of B-movie thrills, and a sincere attempt to move the tale in a new direction.

This sequel to Predator 2 begins with an opening image of palm trees, which is a subtle riff on the previous film’s setting. Future Los Angeles is envisioned as a violent, lawless metropolis on the verge of disintegrating, with a media eager to report on any new atrocities.

In a way, it’s like Robocop, but it’s not as clever or amusing. Even though Predator 2 came out a year before LAPD cops attacked Rodney King, its setting and tone was undoubtedly informed by the city’s roiling emotions. However, it lacks Paul Verhoeven’s film’s sly sarcasm. As simple heroes, Harrigan and his crew are depicted.

The Predator easily dispatches a slew of Colombian and Jamaican cartel gangs that appear. When an armed gang threatens a commuter on the Los Angeles Metro, the intended victim and the majority of the carriage pull their firearms – soon enough, everyone is dead at the hands of the alien hands in the scene.
