Pixel 7 Pro Vs. iphone 13 Pro Max: Google’s New Flagship Takes On An Old Foe

Pixel 7 Pro Vs. Iphone 13 Pro Max

After much anticipation, Google has officially announced the Pixel 7 Pro, giving us a new premium flagship competitor to consider for 2022. But how does it stack up against the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is widely considered one of the greatest flagship smartphones of 2021?

Even though you would believe that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the more natural competitor because it is a closer contemporary, the price of that device is quite a bit higher than that of the Pixel 7 Pro. The iPhone 13 Pro Max may be the more cost-effective option.

What’s more, can Apple’s soon-to-be-retired flagship phone compete with the features and capabilities of Google’s Pixel 7 Pro?

Price and Availability of Pixel 7 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max

On October 13, 2022, the Pixel 7 Pro went on sale. Prices start at $899, £849, or AU$1,299 for the 128GB model, and you can pay $999, £949, or AU$1,449 for 256GB. There is even a 512GB option for $1,099/AU$1,599 in some markets, but it is hard to get.

On September 24, 2021, the iPhone 13 Pro Max came out. At launch, the 128GB model cost $1,099, £1,049, or AU$1,699. The 256GB model cost $1,199, £1,149, or AU$1,869, the 512GB model cost $1,399, £1,349, or AU$2,219, and the new 1TB model cost $1,599, £1,549, or AU$2,569.

Since the 14 Pro Max has replaced the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple has stopped selling it, but you can still buy a brand-new one from third-party retailers. At the time of writing, it’s interesting that prices from third-party retailers haven’t dropped all that much.

Pixel 7 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max Design

The Pixel 7 Pro is a slight improvement on the Pixel 6 Pro in design, which means it looks very different from the iPhone. Google’s unique camera visor is back for another year, and this time it goes from one side of the phone to the other. The model for 2022 makes that visor out of a single piece of shiny aluminium instead of glass. It now looks like it is coming out of the edge of the device.

The Pixel 7 Pro is a high-end piece of tech, and its signature Hazel colour is also very eye-catching. It looks good with a golden rim, camera module, and green-grey colour. You can also choose Snow (white) or Obsidian (black) if you’d like.

Apple offers Graphite, Gold, Silver, Sierra Blue and Alpine Green for the 13 Pro Max. So, there are more choices than with the Pixel, even if none are as visually appealing as that Hazel colour.

Aside from those colours, the iPhone 13 Pro Max looks almost identical to Apple’s previous phones. It has a perfectly flat edge, flat surfaces, and a camera module that doesn’t look like much, even though it’s not tiny.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is taller more comprehensive and thicker than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.65 mm. It’s also much lighter at 212g compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which weighs 238g. This isn’t surprising since it’s made mostly of recycled aluminium instead of steel, like the iPhone.

Pixel 7 Pro Vs. Iphone 13 Pro Max

Both phones are IP68 certified but the iPhone 13 Pro Max has been tested to withstand greater depths, has a more scratch-resistant Ceramic Shield covering the screen and a more premium stainless steel rim. The front and back of the Pixel 7 Pro are made of Gorilla Glass Victus, and the edges are made of aluminium.

Another difference is that the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a big notch in the screen, which is much more ugly than the punch-hole front camera on the Pixel 7 Pro. Even the iPhone’s secure Face ID system is no longer a unique feature since Google has made something similar work in its less intrusive camera cutout.

Both phones have OLED screens that are 6.7 inches and can refresh at 120Hz or 10Hz. Both are big, colourful, and moving. But the Pixel 7 Pro screen is sharper, with a resolution of 1440 x 3120 (QHD+), which is better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s 1284 x 2778. Google’s screen also gets brighter, with a peak brightness of 1500nits instead of 1200nits like the iPhone.

Also, the Pixel 7 Pro’s screen is slightly curved at the edges, which some people will find annoying when watching videos. The Pixel 6 Pro’s screen is more curved than this one. Google has also added the option of a fingerprint sensor built into the net to go with the new facial recognition system, which Apple still refuses to do.

Pixel 7 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max Specs and Performance

Google’s latest Tensor G2 processor powers the Pixel 7 Pro. Early reviews say it’s not much faster than the Pixel 6 Pro’s Tensor processor. According to benchmarks, it still lags behind the iPhone 13 Pro Max and its A15 Bionic chip in CPU and GPU output, even if that chip has been replaced. Google touts Tensor G2’s machine-learning capabilities. It allows real-time speech transcription, crisp voice communications, and photo deblurring.

Google says the new CPU is energy-efficient. 4nm is more efficient than Apple’s 5nm standard for the 13 Pro Max. Pixel 7 Pro has 12GB of RAM, double the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Given how iOS and Android handle resources, we can discount this discrepancy. Apple offers 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. Google offers 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB in some countries.

Pixel 7 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max Battery

Pixel 7 Pro’s 5,000mAh battery is more significant than iPhone 13 Pro Max’s 4,352mAh cell. iOS and Android utilise hardware differently, as we’ve seen. Apple’s approach is thrifty; thus, comparing battery sizes is futile.

We were disappointed with the Pixel 6 Pro’s battery life last year, as it struggled to endure an entire day. The iPhone 13 Pro Max can last a day on a third of a tank. Pixel 7 Pro closes the gap. Google claims the 7 Pro’s powerful Tensor G2 chip can last 24 hours on a single charge. The business has added a 72-hour Extreme Battery Saver Mode.

Neither phone wired charges quickly. iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 7 Pro are both 23W. Neither company includes a plug. Given the pricing, both phones offer wireless charging.

Takeaway

Google’s Pixel 7 Pro is another well-equipped Android flagship. Given its similarities to the Pixel 6 Pro, it’s unlikely to beat the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is still a great phone a year later. It’s a great bargain if discounted. The Pixel 7 Pro promises minor upgrades over its predecessor. It has a brighter screen, more power, a better camera, and longer battery life.

While we have a few issues, it comes down to whether you think the subtle enhancements give a genuinely top-notch experience that moves ahead of the still-superb iPhone 13 Pro Max, especially if you’re not wed to Android or iOS.
