Jake Flint Dies Only Hours After His Wedding

Jake Flint, an Oklahoma musician, died suddenly over the weekend, just hours after getting married, according to his publicist, Clif Doyal. He was 37. Doyal said that Jake Flint was a real representation of the Oklahoma and Texas Red Dirt music scene.

“He was not only a prolific songwriter, recording artist, and in-demand live performer, but he was also a tireless supporter of other talents throughout the region, always willing to lend a hand to help anyone who needed it. Many people liked him because of his warm smile and easy-going sense of humor. I think that, along with his music, will be his lasting legacy.”

Doyal said Flint died in his sleep. No one knows what killed him. CNN has reached out to the office of the medical examiner to find out more.

Brenda Flint, Flint’s wife, posted a video clip from their wedding day to Facebook. It showed the two of them dancing and laughing while they posed for pictures. She wrote “I don’t understand” as the only caption.

“We should be going through wedding photos but instead I have to pick out clothes to bury my husband in,” she said in another post. “It’s not supposed to hurt this much for people. My heart is gone and I just really need him to come back. I can’t take much more. I need him here.”

Brenda Cline, who used to be Flint’s manager, said on Facebook that she “loved him like a son” and that he was “the funniest, funniest, hardest working, most dedicated artist I have ever worked with in my career.”

A state tourism site says that red dirt music is a mix of country, bluegrass, rock, and honky tonk. It started near Stillwater, Oklahoma.
