On Sunday, Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug broke the course record and tied Kurt Fearnley for the most victories in the history of the New York City Marathon.

Breaking the previous record set by Australian Fearnley in 2006 by 1:29.22. Hug completed the 26.2-mile route in 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 26 seconds. Hug, who also took first place in this competition last year won $50,000 for setting a new record time. When he finished, he was more than 2 minutes ahead of the runner-up, an Illinois man named Daniel Romanchuk.

With a time of 1:42.43, Susannah Scaroni also set a new track record for women in wheelchairs. Previously, Tatyana McFadden held the record, but this time it was beaten by 21 seconds.

Scaroni a 31-year-old from Illinois established an early lead and went on to win the race and a bonus for setting a new course record. She finished over two minutes and a half ahead of the Swiss runner-up, Manuela Schar, and over a minute and a half ahead of the Australian runner-up, Madison de Rozario.

In addition to his 2019 third-place performance in New York, Scaroni also recently won the Chicago Marathon. Hug 36 has been on quite a roll having won four gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympics last year and the Tokyo, Berlin, London, and Chicago Marathons in 2022.

Hug triumphed on an extremely warm day, with temperatures predicted to reach the 70s and even approaching the record for the hottest race since the marathon was relocated to November 1986. Hug, who competes in the event in a wheelchair, said on Thursday that the warm weather is perfect for them.

For her fourth marathon, Amy Robach co-host of ABC News’ raced 26.2 miles. The 49-year-old finished New York City in 2019, Berlin in 2021, and Chicago just last month. Her co-host TJ Holmes is also a candidate. Earlier this year, the two competed in the New York City Half Marathon together.

Catfish: The TV Show host Nev Schulman has run the New York City Marathon several times. The 38-year-old actually grew up not far from the actual endpoint. For the New York Road Runners’ Team for Kids, Schulman will be running.
