Let’s get down to business, ladies. Observed on the first of August each year, today is officially dubbed “National Girlfriend Day.” In contrast to National Boyfriend Day, which encourages men to show their girlfriends how much they respect them, National Women’s Day is all about women supporting women!
The same is true of romantic couples. A job can be gained or lost. Because your girls are always there when you need them most, no matter what happens. Your “ride or die” squad of homegirls deserves some recognition! Hence, why do we fall in love with our girlfriends? Because they’re like sisters, but without all of the responsibilities that come with being a teenager. When things go bad, your girlfriends will listen to your complaints and then offer you the encouragement you need to get through it.
Friendship-building activities like spa days, weekend retreats, and PJ parties with wine and nachos are much nicer when you have your bestie along for the ride. Take advantage of National Girlfriend Day 2021 to indulge in some juicy chitchat about your past, present, and potential future love interests. In the circle of sisterhood, you have a secure place to share your goals and dreams.
History
According to Mistress Susan, who owns a luxury website, National Girlfriend Day was first established on August 1. She says she came up with the idea for the holiday in 2004 as a way for her girlfriends to show their appreciation for one another.
When it comes to female friendships, there is a long history beyond the day itself. We can’t even begin to trace the origins of female friendship back that far, so instead, we’ll look at some of the most famous female friends in recent history.
In the 1860s, a group of female friends known as the “Edinburgh Seven” struggled to become the first women in the United Kingdom to attend medical school. But they couldn’t get a medical degree from Edinburgh University, where they were studying medicine. This led to legislation in 1876, which made it possible for women to attend medical school. Female doctors will be able to look back on the Edinburgh Seven as a model.

The Rockford Peaches, pioneers of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s, deserve a special mention. In the United States, their accomplishments were a major step forward for female athletes.
We love the story of Ella Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe’s friendship, in which Fitzgerald credits Monroe with getting her a major break. The manager of the Mocambo in Hollywood turned the singer down in 1955 because she lacked “s*x appeal.”
Monroe called the manager and stated that if Fitzgerald got the job, she would sit in the front row every night, which would bring in the publicity and audiences that the manager desired. The following is what Fitzgerald would say in the future. A tiny jazz club gig was never an issue again after that.
There are many examples of closest friends in sports, such as Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. Their rivalry on the court was legendary, but they were also close friends off it. The two would frequently go to tournaments and spend time together in between matches.
In the past, female friends have been known to go against the flow and accomplish amazing things together. On National Girlfriend Day in 2021, be sure to spend some time expressing your gratitude to your closest female companions.
