Local Philadelphia indie rockers Mt. Joy are making waves internationally. On Saturday night, they’ll play the Mann Center for the first time since the pandemic, and with two new albums under their belts, they’re guaranteed to have a sold-out crowd.
Mt. Joy is a five-piece indie rock band formed by Sam Cooper and Matt Quinn in honor of their birthplace by taking their name from a hiking trail in Valley Forge National Park.
A mutual appreciation bound the two for tunes as fellow Conestoga High School alums. The two ran into each other again in Los Angeles several years later. The band was on tour with The Lumineers when the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of several shows.
The band’s newest album, “Orange Blood,” was published this summer. Their last album was released in June 2020.

They’ve left for Philadelphia, where they’ll play the Mann Music Center’s Skyline Stage as the evening’s headliners on Saturday night.
In a recent online concert, the band raised money for Music Cares and Philabundance while raising awareness about contemporary issues.
