U.S. box office receipts of $15 million (against a production budget of $11 million) were a long cry from the $132 million brought in by the original film’s release on the same date in 1981.

Michael Carrington, a newcomer from Britain, is a sharp-dressed college student (a cousin of Sandy Olsson from the previous film). Frenchy, whom Sandy had requested to greet and present Michael to the school, does just that. In order to launch her own cosmetics business, Frenchy has revealed that she has returned to Rydell to complete her high school education and earn her diploma. When Michael finally meets Stephanie, he falls in love at first sight.
