With double elimination hanging over their heads, they don’t know who will move on and who will be sent home. In episode 17, the remaining contestants will take over the famous Californian restaurant of Chef Wolfgang Puck and cook dishes that keep the restaurant’s reputation.
All about MasterChef Season 12 Episodes 16 and 17
The synopsis of episode 16, The Wall, reads:
“The Top Eight chefs are paired and tasked with communicating on opposite sides of a wall to create identical dishes with a double elimination on the line.”
In the next two-hour block of episodes, Gordon Ramsay will be joined by judges Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich to challenge the remaining eight contestants to cook the same dish with their partners. The catch is that there will be a wall between them while they cook the dish.
The cook-off contestants must be careful and precise when giving directions because one mistake can hurt their chances of staying in the competition.
At the end of the episode, judges will rate the dish based on how it tastes, how it looks, and how well it was made according to the instructions. The two people whose words were the least interesting will be sent home.
The summary of Restaurant Takeover: Spago, episode 17, says:
“Then, after an elimination, the Top Six must take over Chef Wolfgang Puck’s kitchen at the famous Spago restaurant in Los Angeles, California, and uphold its renowned reputation.”
The remaining six contestants will then move on to one of the most dreaded challenges of MasterChef, the restaurant takeover. This time, the contestants will be taking over the kitchen of Chef Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant in Los Angeles, California.
The contestants will have to prepare an impressive meal for everyone to seal their place in the finale.
A Quick Recap Of Episodes 14 and 15 of MasterChef
In the last two episodes of MasterChef, “Gas Station Gourmet” and “Winner’s Mystery Box,” the top 10 chefs were asked to make the traditional gas station and road trip snacks into gourmet dishes. After the elimination, MasterChef 9 winner Gerron Hurt gave the remaining chefs the Winner’s Mystery Box challenge.
At the beginning of episode 14, Gordon showed how to turn gas station food into a gourmet meal by combining rice, shallots, spinach, and fish crusted with pretzels and salty snacks. Derrick did not participate in the challenge because he had already won the last one. The rest of the chefs had 45 minutes to develop some gourmet dishes that used at least three things from a gas station.
After trying the worst and best dishes, the judges chose Christian’s Crusted Corn Chip Snapper with Herb Roasted Potatoes and Gummy-Bear Beer Chili Sauce as the winner of the challenge. Christian got the immunity pin, and Shanika got the second immunity pin for her Ranch Tortilla Crusted Snapper with Lemon-Lime Soda Avocado Puree and Lemon-Lime Herb Sauce.
But the judges didn’t like Brandi’s Spicy Cheese Puff Arepa with Cola Skirt Steak and Fruity Cereal Crema, so she was sent home.
In the Winner’s Mystery Box Challenge, seven contestants had 45 minutes to use the chilis in Gerron Hurt’s mystery box to make a hot and spicy dish. Emily’s Shrimp Fra Diavolo with Spicy Tomato and Pancetta Pasta with Calabrian Chili Oil was chosen as the winner of episode 15.
Bowen, on the other hand, was kicked off the show because the judges did not like his Seafood Stuffed Pepper with Mofongo Mashed Plantain Cake. The following double elimination episode of MasterChef will air on Fox on Wednesday at 8 pm ET/PT.
