With the help of music, an Anime’s tale may take on a life of its own that is impossible to put into words. Mashiro no Oto, or Those Snow White Notes, is a good example. Using a traditional musical instrument called a sinashen, the narrative shows how the song of one’s life is demoted to the commotion of city life and the sounds of traffic.
The tale is pushed forward by the sinashen, and as a result, the anime features strong, likable characters and a visually arresting animation style.
Marimo Ragawa is the author and illustrator of the manga series that serves as the inspiration for the series. It was first published in the monthly shonen magazine by Kodansha in Japan and by Kodansha USA in the English translation.
