A man was charged by a federal grand jury in Santa Barbara last Wednesday for killing his two young kids with a spear gun after taking them to Mexico. The accused is the 40-year old Matthew Coleman who was charged with two counts of foreign first-degree murder of two US citizens, as stated in last Wednesday’s indictment.
The cases filed qualifies Coleman for the death penalty, according to the reports of CBS Los Angeles, but the decision will be made later by the Attorney General.
According to the complaint filed in the Los Angeles federal court, Coleman informed the FBI agents that “he believed his children were going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them.” Coleman reportedly believes in the QAnon conspiracy and because of this he thinks a “serpent DNA” was passed by his wife to his 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter.
The authorities reported that the children’s bodies were found by a farmworker at a ranch near Rosarito in Baja California.

Coleman is set to appear in his first court hearing on Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The previous federal charges for the same crimes filed in Los Angeles will be dismissed. His prosecution will then be done in the United States District Court in San Diego.
Coleman’s wife first filed a missing person report when she discovered her husband left their home with the kids without her knowledge. This prompted the start of the police investigation on Coleman, who is also Love water surfing school’s founder in Santa Barbara. Coleman was located through a phone-tracking application which later pointed the whereabouts to Rosarito, Mexico on August 8.
The following day, Coleman’s location changed to San Ysidro Port of Entry as tracked through the phone. He was met by the FBI at the border as he was reentering the US without his kids. The FBI later checked with Rosarito authorities and found that two bodies of children were recovered and matched the description of Coleman’s kids.
