NBC renews Magnum PI Season 5 and 6 After CBS Cancels It

NBC has officially announced that it has renewed CBS’ castoff island drama Magnum PI Season 5 and 6 for two 10-episode, with an option for more, according to sources speaking to TVLine. The news comes just a month after Universal TV, MPI’s primary producer, was said to be in talks with either NBC or USA Network, the sibling cable network. “Thank you, to the fans, for the incredible effort,” Magnum said in a video posted to NBC’s Twitter account on Sunday, July 3. We have a new home at NBC thanks to the petitions you started and the Times Square billboard you bought. Fans, we hope to see you in Season 5!

ย “GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE,” declared actor Zachary Knighton, who plays Rick on the show, while co-star Stephen Hill aka T.C. tweeted “aloha nui loa a hui hou,” or “love you so much,” in reference to an iconic 1980s film. Hill responded to the news on Instagram, writing, “So thrilled to work with THESE guys on THIS show and to produce THE BEST FANS we could possibly wish for!”

Season 5 is upon us, and Perdita Weeks has shared an aloha-themed snapshot of herself on Instagram. It was Magnum’s fourth season on CBS that scored 7.3 million total viewers and 0.7 demo ratings (with Live+7 playback), down just a bit from its Season 3 tally (7.5 mil/0.8).

There were many cancellations at CBS this spring, prior to Paramount Global’s “upfront” presentation to advertisers in New York when it presented its Fall 2022 lineup of new and returning shows. “Magnum P.I.” was one among them. “United States of Al,” “B Positive,” “Good Sam,” and “How We Roll” were all axed as well.

Seasons 5 and 6 of NBC’s “Magnum P.I.” have been ordered, as reported.
