American professional basketball player Lorenzen Vern-Gagne Wright played for the National Basketball Association for 13 seasons (November 4, 1975 – July 19, 2010).
Los Angeles Clippers selected him in the seventh round of the NBA Draft in 1996. He has since played for the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
On July 18, 2010, Wright went missing. Ten days later, his body with gunshot wounds was discovered. His ex-wife Sherra Wright-Robinson was accused of helping to facilitate his murder in December 2017; a year and a half later, she pleaded guilty.
In March 2022, her friend Billy Ray Turner was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiring to commit first-degree murder, and attempting to commit first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison.

The Tennessee Board of Parole announced Monday that Lorenzen Wright’s ex-wife would not be given early release from a 30-year jail term she got after pleading guilty to organizing the retired NBA player’s 2010 murder.
Sherra Wright, who pleaded guilty in July 2019 to first-degree murder facilitation in connection with the death of her ex-husband, was denied parole by the board.
According to board spokesperson Dustin Krugel in an email to The Associated Press, the decision was made after three of the board’s seven members concurred to deny her parole due to the gravity of her violation.
On May 11, Sherra Wright attended a parole hearing at the Nashville prison where she is housed. Wright claimed that the prisoner had done well in her lessons and had a network of supporters who would assist her after her release.
In her place, two of her kids made statements.
Deborah Marion, the mother of Lorenzen Wright, was one of the people who spoke out against her early release. She opined that Sherra Wright ought to complete the entirety of her 30-year sentence.
Sherra Wright was granted a hearing based on her “safety valve” date, the earliest release date permitted under an executive order addressing prison overpopulation for particular prisoners.
According to the Tennessee Department of Prison, she has more than three years of credit for time served.
Barrett Rich, a board member, presided over the hearing and suggested that the board reject the request for parole. May 2027 is the tentative date for her next parole hearing.

The murder of Lorenzen Wright has received the most attention in Memphis’s recorded history. On July 28, 2010, his decomposing body was discovered in a swampy field near east Memphis, covered in gunshot wounds. Before his body was found, the 34-year-old father of six had been missing for days.
Wright, a 6-foot-11-inch center born in Memphis, played 13 seasons in the NBA before retiring following the 2008–2009 campaign.
More than seven years after the murder, Billy Ray Turner and Sherra Wright were charged with first-degree murder.
She unexpectedly submitted a guilty plea to the lesser charge of murder facilitation, but Turner maintained his innocence and proceeded with the trial. He was found guilty of first-degree murder and given a life sentence in March.
Although the prosecution said the murderers were motivated by jealousy and money, a reason for the killing was not evident throughout the trial.
Sherra Wright settled a legal battle in 2014 over how she used the insurance money to help their six children by receiving $1 million from her ex-life husband’s insurance policy.
