During the press conference, police released the name of the suspect as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich. Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said that the suspect in the shooting at Club Q was a man named Anderson Lee Aldrich. A long rifle and another gun were discovered at the scene, he said.

According to Vasquez at least two people were present in the nightclub at the time of the shooting and were able to stop the gunman. He said We owe them a great debt of thanks. Club Q is a safe haven for our LGBTQ citizens, he continued. All residents should be able to freely roam our lovely metropolis without worrying about their safety or being mistreated.

It was only a few minutes long. Several calls to 911 were received by police at 11:56 p.m. and police were dispatched at 11:57 p.m. The first officer arrived at midnight and the suspect was taken into custody at 12:02 a.m., police said.

A member of the suspect team was found inside, according to Lt. Pamela Castro of the Colorado Springs Police Department. The suspect is currently being treated while being held in custody. Club Q released a statement on social media expressing their devastation over the senseless attack on our community and their gratitude toward the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack.

Details of the shooting’s conclusion were not disclosed by police, but Castro stated that this was not an officer involved shooting. The scene is similar to the 2016 shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, Florida in which a gunman who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State killed 49 people and wounded at least 53.

What Was the Exact Scene At the Time of Shooting at Colorado?

The Columbine High School massacre in 1999 and the Aurora, Colorado theatre shooting in 2012 are two of the deadliest mass shootings in American history, both of which occurred in the state of Colorado. A source close to the investigation has declined to comment on a possible motive for this latest shooting.

Club Q stated earlier in the day that its Saturday night lineup will feature a punk and alternative event at 9 p.m. followed by a dance party at 11. On Sunday in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance, the club planned to host a drag brunch in addition to a drag show. The website for the nightclub has been updated to reflect the current status closed.

Castro did not specify if the suspect was counted among the injured in the shooting or not. Captain Mike Smaldino of the Colorado Springs Fire Department reported that 11 ambulances were dispatched to the scene in response to multiple 911 calls.

Dan Weaver, UCHealth’s vice president of hospital communications said that the facility currently has at least five patients under treatment. Colorado Governor Jared Polis, the first openly homosexual governor in the country, condemned the attack in a statement, calling it horrific, vile and devastating and offering state resources to local law enforcement.

He also expressed his gratitude to the first responders who arrived at the scene quickly and to the heroic people who stopped the shooter, perhaps saving lives. Colorado’s LGBTQ community and all those affected by this tragedy have my deepest sympathies.
