An Arizona Republican congresswoman whose party is on the verge of taking control of the House of Representatives by a razor-thin margin in January issued a warning to the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, that he must resign or face investigations from the House of Representatives when the GOP takes control of the gavel. Rep. Debbie Lesko has indicated that she would like to add her voice to that of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in requesting that Mayorkas resign.
“I’m delighted that he has given Mayorkas an ultimatum: Either quit or we’re going to start investigations and see if it leads to impeachment,” Lesko said on “Your World” on Friday. “Either leave, or we’ll start investigations and see if it leads to impeachment.” “My name is on the list of supporters for the measure to remove Mayorkas from office. Before that, I had co-signed letters and legislation demanding that he step down, and I had also co-signed requests for him to do so.”
Lesko, a House Border Security Caucus member, stated that Mayorkas had been requested to speak in front of them, and she expressed her surprise that he accepted the invitation.
“We had written him a letter telling him that he ought to resign from his position. And he never stops lying: He never stops assuring us that the country’s perimeter is safe, “— I quote her. “Recently, he repeated his statement while testifying in front of the House. In addition to that, it is unsafe. That is common knowledge. Even those who have entered the country illegally are aware of this.”
McCarthy demands that Mayorkas resign from his position as Secretary of Homeland Security or risk facing an impeachment investigation. Lesko later added that Vice President Joe Biden behaves as if he favours an open border.
As evidence, he cited the White House’s opposition to Title 42 health protection measures that had resulted in deportations, as well as the fact that one of Vice President Joe Biden’s first actions as president was to halt construction of the border wall. Lesko also cited that one of President Joe Biden’s first actions as president was to stop the border wall construction.
“If there were only one thing that Biden could do – if he reinstated the Remain in Mexico policy, that would address a lot of the problem that’s going on right now,” she said. “If there was only one thing Biden could do,” she added. “If there was only one thing Biden could do,” she said.
“Because, as you are aware, our southern border is experiencing a humanitarian crisis in addition to a drug and national security crisis.” The Republican stated that, in contrast to Vice President Joe Biden, she has travelled to the southern border to witness the crisis firsthand. She criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for visiting El Paso, Texas, rather than crossing the few miles to the border herself. Lesko continued by saying that the Border Patrol agents she spoke with felt demoralized and frustrated.
After declaring earlier in the week that the southern border is safe, Mayorkas seemed to change his tune somewhat regarding the topic of the wall during a hearing in the Senate the previous week.
The ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, asked Mayorkas the same series of questions that the head of the Border Patrol was asked earlier in the year by Florida officials. The first question in this series was whether or not the southern border was in a state of crisis.
According to Mayorkas, “a migration crisis is afflicting the entirety of the hemisphere.” “We are witnessing a movement of people from one country to another on a scale that has never been seen before. It is not confined to the border with Mexico.”
