Jeremiah Fennell, who is only ten years old, is the newest journalist to join the ranks of the sports world, and he is already creating headlines.
Jeremiah explained that the inability to participate in sports was the impetus behind his decision to pursue a career in sports writing when he made an appearance on the “Jennifer Hudson Show” on February 10, dressed in a blue button up shirt and a light blue tie.
“It all started when I was 4 years old because I was told through my parents that I might not be able to play contact sports because I have a brain defect and detached shoulder bone,” he told Hudson.
“That’s what started it, but what’s really driving me is because I want to make my parents proud at a young age because my mom very much has health issues and my dad is a senior citizen,” Jeremiah said.
“Most kids think that their parents are going to last forever – for the rest of their childhood, but when I was 5 years old, my almost died,” he continued.
After not seeing his mom for a month, which Jeremiah called “the worst 30 days” of his life, the young journalist said he “had a long talk with God,” telling Him that if He brought his mom back, he would be the “greatest son that I could ever be.”
Hudson almost cried, so he asked Jeremiah what his favorite football team was. Jeremiah said, “The Las Vegas Raiders.”
“I would say when I was young, maybe about 7 or eight years old, I had the opportunity to meet J.J. Stokes, who was on the San Francisco 49er’s at the time,” Adams said. “And that memory stuck with me because that was the first professional athlete that I met and it was just a great experience.”
On January 11, the Raiders posted a video of Jeremiah talking to Davante Adams on the team’s official Twitter account. After he told the Raiders wide receiver a long list of impressive statistics, he asked him about his favorite childhood memory.
The Raiders put “Our newest (and cutest) reporter on the job with @tae15adams” and a saluting emoji in the video’s description.
The team also gave him a trip to the Super Bowl on February 12 as a surprise. Jeremiah said he wanted to talk to Stefon Diggs and Peyton Manning in a video that the team put on Instagram. He said, “You never know.” Jeremiah has said that he wants to be a journalist, a sportscaster, an entrepreneur, and an investor in the future.
