James Murdoch is the fourth of entertainment mogul Rupert Murdoch’s six children. He has been the CEO of 21st Century Fox, the CEO and chairman of BSkyB and has had many different jobs at his father’s company, News Corporation. In 2011, Murdoch was linked to the News International scandal about hacking celebrity phones to get information.
In 2018, for $71.3 billion, the Murdoch family sold most of its assets to Walt Disney. The deal made each of the Murdoch children worth a lot of money. After the deal, Rupert put James’s brother Lachlan in charge of what was left of the Fox Corporation. James wasn’t given a role, so he quickly started his investment company, Lupa Systems.
People have long said James is the only non-conservative member of a conservative family. He had spoken out against President Donald Trump and some things that Fox News said. James gave $1 million to a committee that raised money for Joe Biden before the 2020 presidential election.
James resigned as a News Corp. board member on July 31, 2020. In his letter of resignation, he said: “I’m leaving because I don’t agree with some of the editorial content and other strategic decisions made by the Company’s news outlets.” He had already quit the Fox Corporation, which was in charge of the TV stations owned by his family.
