Review Of The Apple Iphone 14 Plus: Huge Display, Extraordinary Battery Life!

What will a big phone look like in 2022? It’s been a moving target for a while now, though it’s been moving steadily in the same direction. It’s hard to say precisely the average screen size, but most high-end smartphone screens are between six and seven inches.

In 2010, Steve Jobs said that a screen that was four inches was the best size. “You can’t hold it in your hand,” he said as Android phones got bigger and bigger. “No one will believe that.” Samsung put out the first Galaxy Note the following year. Some people were disgusted by the 5.3-inch screen. The first tablet that got a lot of attention was too big to fit in pockets or hands.

Since then, a decade has passed, and those comments now seem old-fashioned. This is something that technology can do. In 2022, the iPhone 14 will have four new versions in two sizes: 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The screen-to-body ratio has increased dramatically, which is just one of the many things that have happened to get us here. As displays have become more significant, the space needed to hold them has become more minor.

Since a few weeks ago, I’ve been using the regular iPhone 14 as my primary device. I can’t get my hand around it, but I’m getting close. The fact that it’s easy to use with one hand is more important. We’ve come a long way since the days when a phone with a 5.3-inch screen seemed almost too big to use.

I’ve found that 6.1 inches are the best size for me to use daily. It has a good-sized screen and doesn’t take up too much space. As always, your results may be different. Some people were understandably upset when the iPhone 14 lineup clarified that the Mini was no longer being made. It makes sense to want a smaller phone, but the SE will have to fill that role for now.

As you’ve probably guessed from reading this, I now use the 14 Plus daily. I’ll say right off the bat that I can’t understand it. It’s more of a mixed bag when you use it with one hand. With face unlock turned on, you can easily do things like checking your emails and scroll through social media. These are the kinds of things that most of us do on our phones most of the time.

If, on the other hand, you want to respond to an email, things get more complicated. I can usually move around to choose the right message, but I’ll need both hands to hit “Replay” in Gmail and type. If you know much about voice computing, you might have a way to get around the problem.

As with everything in life, there are pros and cons. I like the size of 6.7 inches for things like watching videos. When taking pictures, it’s also nice to use the whole screen as a viewfinder. This week, I ended up moderating a panel at a Brooklyn bookstore. It’s the perfect size to use as a kind of makeshift teleprompter. Even though that’s not a very common need, these benefits become apparent quickly when you go from 6.1 to 6.7 inches.

Besides the screen size, the biggest reason to choose the Plus over the standard 14 is the battery. The Plus can play videos for 26 hours, while the 14 can only play videos for 20 hours. For me, this meant that I went to bed with about 50% battery and woke up with about 37%. You should be fine for a total of 24 hours without any problems. It’s nice not to have to worry about where to find a charger during the day.

We’re not talking about a significant change like going from an Apple Watch Series 8 to an Apple Watch Ultra, but it would be nice not to worry about your phone dying when you’re out in the world.

The 14 Plus is an interesting middle ground in the line of iPhones. It’s the basic model but not the most expensive one. It’s more like the first one and is almost the same in every way except size. Interestingly, it weighs less than the smaller 14 Pro. Having used the Pro for a little while, I also noticed that almost right away. For such a big phone, that is worth mentioning. At $899, it’s also $100 cheaper than the Pro and $200 more affordable than the Pro Max.

If you want a new iPhone but don’t need all the latest bells and whistles, you can get the 14. The 14 Pro is at the cutting edge of what the iPhone can do. The 14 Pro Max has everything in it. The Plus is for people who want a bigger screen but don’t need all the other features. The only way to know which one is right for you is to try them on at a local store.

I think the regular 14 is the best choice for most people. Upgrade to the Pro if you want better photos and a faster chip or if everything else about Dynamic Island impresses you. But if the screen size is your main concern, 0.6 inches make a big difference.
