Evangelion 4.0 Release Date

On November 17, 2012, the third instalment in the ‘Rebuild of Evangelion’ film series, titled ‘Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo,’ debuted. ‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time,’ the fourth and final film, was revealed alongside the third. While the first two films were critical and commercial successes, ‘You Can (Not) Redo’ had only a lukewarm reception. This was followed by Hideaki Anno, the franchise’s director and producer, succumbing to yet another bout of severe depression.

He made a public declaration in 2015, revealing that he did not visit the studio even once in 2013. That same year, Anno was asked by Toho (one of the two co-distributors of ‘Thrice Upon a Time’) to co-direct their new ‘Godzilla’ project. Anno, who was initially hesitant, later agreed. ‘Shin Godzilla’ was released in July 2016. The original delay in development of ‘Thrice Upon a Time’ occurred because Anno was working on ‘Shin Godzilla.’

However, filming on the fourth Evangelion film had already begun by April 2017. Khara presented a screening of the first 10 minutes of the film at the Japan Expo in Paris on July 6, 2019. The footage was displayed at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CCG Expo 2019 in Shanghai, and numerous Japanese sites all at the same time. The film’s development was going well, and it was scheduled to be released on June 27, 2020. But then the COVID pandemic struck, and the picture was pulled from the schedule in April 2020.

The new release date had been established for January 23, 2021. However, due to the pandemic, the film was pulled from the scheduled on January 14, 2021. The producers have since stated that there would be no new date for the premiere. The movie is almost certainly finished, and COVID vaccines are becoming available all across the world. Given all of this, ‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time’ had been released on march 2021.
