In March, the creators of New Amsterdam said that the show would end after Season 5. I’m not crying, but you are. But as the end of Season 4 gets closer, there are still a lot of unanswered questions. For example, will the show’s main character, Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), and his longtime love interest, Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman), finally get their happily ever after?

In the April 26 episode, after Max asked Helen to marry him and she said yes, their love story almost came full circle. But they had to put their wedding plans on hold when Helen got sick and had to go to the hospital.

Did Helen Die On New Amsterdam

On “New Amsterdam,” What Happened To Dr. Helen Sharpe?

In the movie “All Night Long,” a night out on the town went wrong when a vengeful and angry bartender, played by Adam Rose, drugged the staff and put Helen in the hospital.

The viewers discovered that the poison caused serious blood coagulation in the following episodes. It was suggested to Helen that she have a hysterectomy, which would prevent her from having children with Max but would save her life. Helen ultimately decided against this course of action.

Helen decided against undergoing the procedure despite the potential dangers, and as a result, she suffered a severe stroke that rendered her unable to communicate verbally. There is little question that her newly discovered impairment will impact how she interacts with Max.

Fans are concerned that this may mark the end of her long-running role on the show, which has aired for many years. The episode was an emotional rollercoaster. So, is Freema departing New Amsterdam? This is what we currently know.

Does Helen Sharpe die on ‘New Amsterdam’?

As of April 2022, we have no reason to believe that the showrunners intend to terminate Helen’s character. The creators of New Amsterdam, David Schulner and Peter Horton, recently gave their opinions on what the next phase of the show will bring for her and Max in an interview with TV Insider. And from what both of them have said, their love story is not even finished.

“It puts your love for another person to the ultimate test. It truly puts that love to the test, revealing how pure or how much of it was based on projection and some idea you had of your future. Peter told TV Insider.

“It’s great when everything is all romantic and fine, and you’re proclaiming your eternal love, no matter what. If you say that you’ll be together “for better or worse” in your vows, ask yourself: “How true is that going to be when faced with the reality of it?”

Fans can have peace of mind knowing that the series finale will respond to all of their questions, even though it is unknown what the future holds for Max and Helen.

Dan continued, “The fans have wanted Max and Sharpe to be together for a long time.” They will not be allowed to disappear into the horizon without consequence. We will put them to the test to determine whether or not they belong together. New Amsterdam is shown on NBC every Tuesday at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Why Did Freema Agyeman Leave New Amsterdam?

Agyeman told TV Line in July that she would not be back for Season 5 of New Amsterdam, where she had played Helen Sharpe for four seasons. She is making a comedy called Dreamland for the Sky network in the UK.

“Dearest Dam Fam. “First of all, I want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you for your constant, loyal, and deliciously fierce support!” she said. “I feel fortunate to have gotten to know so many of you over the past few years while playing Ms. Helen Sharpe and seeing your emotional investment go up and down.

What a journey! I’m glad you were there with me. She has meant a lot to me, but it’s time for me to hang up her white coat. I’m sorry that I won’t be back for the last season of New Amsterdam.

She continued, “I’m sad, but as a fan of the series, I’m also very excited to see how the story ends.” Playing Dr. Helen Sharpe for four seasons has been so much fun—those writers made a badass! So happy to have the chance to tell some of her stories! It’s your turn to finish the fan fiction!! Love you, Fam!”

Eggold recently talked about Agyeman’s departure with NBC Insider. “It was great to work with Freema,” he said. “These are some of my favorite parts. She’s a great actor and a nice person, and in a lot of those scenes, we’d find little moments, looks, and connections that were some of my favorite parts.

Will Freema Agyeman Return As Helen On New Amsterdam?

Helen’s future is unknown, but evidence suggests she’ll return. Schulner told TV Line, “New Amsterdam’s doors are always open” Schulner recently claimed, “[Fans] may not have seen the last of Helen Sharpe.”

Eggold told NBC Insider that Sharpwin shipments could face more closure. “As a fan of the show, I hope Max and Helen have more closure, and I’d love to recreate that moment again with Freema, who’s the best,” he remarked. “I’m curious where the plot will lead. I don’t think Sharpe is done, but where he goes next is unknown.”
