Def Leppard Drummer Rick Allen Assaulted In Florida

After being allegedly attacked by a 19-year-old spring breaker outside of his Florida hotel over the weekend, Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen sustained a head injury.

According to a Fort Lauderdale police report quoted by the Daily Mail, Ohio resident Max Edward Hartley, who was on holiday in Fort Lauderdale, was hiding behind a pillar when he ran full speed toward the 59-year-old drummer. Allen has only one arm due to a New Year’s Eve vehicle accident in 1984.

When Allen was struck, he smoked a cigarette outside the Four Seasons Hotel’s valet area. The police report stated that when the man was knocked to the ground, his head was “causing injury” when it struck the concrete.

A woman came running from the hotel to help the musician, but Hartley attacked her as she attempted to run back inside. According to police, Hartley “continued to batter her” while she was on the ground. He then grabbed her by the hair and dragged her from the lobby to the sidewalk before he fled the area, the report said.

Hartley was monitoring the singer before he assaulted him. Shortly after the assault near the Conrad hotel, where he damaged several cars in the parking garage, the 19-year-old was taken into custody. Allen gave a police statement and asked for charges.

Two counts of violence, four counts of criminal mischief, and one case of assaulting an elderly or disabled adult were brought against Hartley.

Allen stayed in the Fort Lauderdale region in preparation for his Sunday performance at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. The World Tour 2023 by Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe, which started last month and will end in August, is currently in progress.
