Paramount+ Orders Criminal Minds Reboot Update: Key Cast Members Return

Details about Paramount+’s involvement have been added to this post: Paramount+ stated on Thursday that it had ordered to series a Criminal Minds reboot featuring six fan-favorite cast members, Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, and Paget Brewster, after an on-and-off dealmaking process that lasted more than one year.

Erica Messer, the program’s longstanding executive producer, and showrunner have also agreed to return to the show, as previously reported. A deal between Messer and ABC Signature, where she has a long-term deal, was a condition of the actors’ contracts.

ABC Signature and CBS Studios secured a licensing agreement with Paramount+ for a new 10-episode season of Criminal Minds in early February. Messer and the actors were brought on board in the past few months and production was given the go-ahead on August 21 in Los Angeles. With the hashtag #criminalminds, Mantegna teased a photo of himself on a soundstage, “doing a little inspection” for an upcoming movie.

The FBI’s finest team of criminal profilers faces its greatest challenge yet in the revived series, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to develop a network of other serial killers. During this period, the network reactivates, and the squad must track them down one murder at a time while the world comes back to life.

For the 15th and last season of Criminal Minds, the majority of the cast consists of Mantegna and Vangsness along with Rodriguez, Cook, Tyler, and Brewster. Matthew Gray Gubler, who has played Spencer Reid for 15 years, and Daniel Henney, who stars in The Wheel Of Time, have been left off the list.

Accordingly, Henney’s appearance on Criminal Minds or any other TV show would be subject to his commitments on the Wheel of Time and schedule conflicts.

Before, it was previously reported that the actors’ agreements for Criminal Minds were multi-year and not fully exclusive, with the cast members being able to do major recurring roles on ongoing series and regular serial parts on limited television series if production did not interfere with it.

The return of Criminal Minds was confirmed at the streamer’s coming-out presentation in February. We think it’s dead,” he tweeted to his Twitter followers on July 31. Six months later, on Feb. 1, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series President Nicole Clemens assured reporters that Criminal Minds is “alive and well.”

Criminology and the psychology of criminality have been addressed “thrillingly” for the past 15 seasons, Clemens said in a statement on Thursday. It never ceased developing during its run, and we are beyond pleased to bring it back to a new generation of viewers at Paramount+ with fresh stories. Erica, the entire cast, and the creative crew are hard at work creating an exciting new season.

In Jeff Davis’ original series, we follow a team of profilers in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit as they conduct investigations to identify criminals and track down their accomplices. JJ Jareau (Cook), Tara Lewis (Tyler), Luke Alvez (Rodriguez), and Penelope Garcia (Vangsness) make up the team, which is led by Senior Agent David Rossi (Mantegna) (Brewster).

With a new season on Paramount+, the cast of the long-running broadcast procedural will reunite to investigate a single case over the course of ten episodes. Messer is the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the series.

Glenn Kershaw will direct and executive produce, with Breen Frazier and Chris Barbour serving as writers and producers; Mark Gordon will also serve as an executive producer. When it comes to streaming, the Criminal Minds reboot is one of Paramount Global’s most coveted offerings.
