Former NFL running back Clinton Portis has announced his retirement from the game. He is most well-known for his nine seasons in the National Football League. Early life
A native of Laurel, Mississippi in the United States, Clinton Portis was born on September 1st, 1981. He was born to Clint and Rhonnel Y. Hearn, who raised him. Two of Portis’s brothers are older than him. He enrolled at the Indus Valley High School to further his education. The University of Miami was his next stop.
Portis was a member of the University of Miami’s football team, the Hurricanes. An incident in high school led to his losing his scholarship to the University of South Carolina.
Clinton got out to a fast start as a freshman, setting a school record with five straight 100-yard games. In 10 games, he had 8 touchdowns and 838 receiving yards to lead his university team. However, Portis had a disappointing sophomore season with just two touchdowns and 485 total yards in eight games. In 2001, he returned to his greatest form, scoring 10 touchdowns and accumulating 1200 yards.
