Trevor Noah ensured in the beginning of the show that the Republican is not here to mince words and take brownie points. The host was assured that he is going to have a “totally legit” interview.
Christie did meet those expectations, as the conversation revolved around his new book titled, “Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden” On the Show he goes on to criticize the former President Donald Trump, in a comprehensive manner. This has been a rare occurrence even after January 6th Riots, especially among the conservatives.
However, two and two did not add up when he did not give a clear answer to refusing to support Donald Trump, in case he goes for a rerun. He also said that even though he criticizes him, there are certain issues the two agree on.
“Look, if he doesn’t stop talking about this election as being stolen, then I can’t support anybody who winds up saying that our democracy didn’t work,” Christie explained.
Christie sees himself as a likely candidate in the race, and would not even mind going up against the Former President in 2024.“If you believe that you’re the best person to be president of the United States, why does it matter who else runs?” Christie posed rhetorically. “To me, it’s almost disqualifying to say, ‘I’ll defer to somebody else.’” Then, taking a sly at Trump he added, “We’re not talking about Dwight Eisenhower here.”
Noah told Christie towards the tail end of the show that he “hopes” Christie runs for 2024 Presidential Elections because “One, because you make things interesting,” he said. “And two, because you are one the few people on that stage who are going to say something real to Donald Trump.”
