As of early June, Sony’s State of Play showcase revealed a release date for Callisto Protocol. One week later, during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, we got our hands on some in-game footage, and it did not disappoint.
So far, The Callisto Protocol has more than lived up to the anticipation it received when it was first unveiled at the Game Awards in 2020. What have we learned thus far? In actuality, quite a bunch. Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, is behind this survival horror game.

Callisto Protocol Release Date
The Callisto Protocol release date was announced at Sony’s State of Play event on June 2, 2022.
Callisto Protocol Gameplay
Beautifully depicted, we observe an anxious inmate exploring strange noises in the poorly lighted prison. Things don’t go well for our naive inmate, to say the least. An Alien-like entity takes over the sleeping cellmate of our nameless protagonist and devours him in a terrible manner while the lights outside his cell flicker. Not your Sackboy, here.
At Summer Game Fest 2022, we saw The Callisto Protocol in its clearest and longest form yet. However, even in this brief look, it’s evident that this isn’t just a clone of the Dead Space series. December 2 is just around the corner.
Callisto Protocol Platforms
PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PC have all been confirmed as the game’s platforms of choice so far. Callisto Protocol, on the other hand, is published by PUBG’s Krafton, which has already released its battle royale on Google’s streaming service, Stadia. Fortunately, the release date of December 2 is still a few weeks away, giving us more time to delve into the eerie history of this terrible new world.

Callisto Protocol Cast, and Gameplay Trailer
With that said, this interplanetary survival horror story takes place some 300 years in the future. Callisto, a moon of Jupiter, is the setting for this story, which takes place in the year 2320. The Black Iron Prison on the moon, Callisto, is the setting for the game’s gruesome creatures and a shady scheme. So yes, we only have a teaser and a few interviews to go on for tale specifics. However, we do know that the game will take place in third-person and be story-based.
Schofield tells GamesRadar+ that the game’s mystery is an important element of its appeal. Who knows what’s around the next bend??” Behind that door, you ask? In my opinion, it was a nice balance between revealing enough and obscuring some aspects of our systems, characters, and story so that we may reveal more as the game progresses. Let the audience figure out a few things,” he says.
We now know that the protagonist of Callisto is a character named Jacob Lee, who has the ability to push and pull objects, thanks to a recent issue of Game Informer(opens in new tab). Josh Duhamel, who played Bumblebee in the Transformers movies, was cast as Jacob, according to the official Twitter account (opens in new tab).
According to the game’s official website, “the game challenges players to escape the maximum-security Black Iron Prison and learn its terrible secrets.”. “The game seeks to set a new standard for horror in interactive entertainment by combining horror, action, and immersive storyline.”
This is Glen Schofield’s first survival horror game since Dead Space 2, but it’s more than that.
Fans of Dead Space will be happy to hear that Callisto plans to bring back the game’s innovative ‘diegetic’ HUD. Exactly what does this say when translated into plain language? It means that your avatar’s outfit, gun overlays, etc. will display your character’s health and other crucial information. In the trailer, you can see a diegetic HUD on the prisoner’s neck.
We’ve got some awesome creatures in @CallistoTheGame The character team is unbelievable. This is “The Blind” a biophage that has evolved and adapted in the dark. pic.twitter.com/X1Gdf5noKV

Is this the final piece of the narrative jigsaw? The Charon is a ship. As we watch this enigmatic figure loom over the camera control panel, an announcement clears the Charon for landing, despite the fact that we know very little about who is on board.
Callisto Protocol: No longer Part Of The PUBG World
PUBG and The Callisto Protocol were formerly thought to be set in the same fictitious universe. What’s the deal here? The same people who brought you Battle Royale: Royal Assault: Call of Duty: Black Ops publish Callisto Protocol.
There will be “small connections here and there” between these two very different games, Schofield told GamesRadar+, despite the fact that the Jupiter-set horror outing takes place 300 years in the future. This implausible lore building will “make more sense after the game comes out.”

When Schofield tweeted about this in May 2022, he clarified that was no longer the case. That’s what Schofield stated in his statement: that Callisto is a whole separate tale and setting, and that it no longer takes place in the world of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
