A committee investigation that was probing the government’s response to the pandemic accused Bolsonaro of charlatanism and more, which resulted in the death of over 600,000 in the country.
The President of Brazil has had a rough patch, where not only his policies have been criticized by the citizens, but also his management strategies adopted have come under the radar. He faces numerous charges on decisions and neglects by the government on the prevention of escalation of the pandemic.
The committee went on to identify that since the inception of the pandemic Bolsonaro hindered local leaders’ activities who were trying to spread awareness regarding the deadly virus. The reason cited behind the same was the economy needs to keep pumping so that it does not affect the economically weaker section.
He was also seen downplaying the need for vaccines and flouting ideal guidelines of wearing a mask to prevent transmission after amassing people. Irrespective of the charges being filed or not by the committee, it is expected to dent his reputation, and already tumbling approval ratings ahead of the upcoming 2022 elections.
Against the allegations in the 1200-page document released last week, Bolsonaro defended his actions as being someone who has stood steady against global health recommendations which did not yield any results, and has been courageous to defy political correctness.
By propagating anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as “practically the only government policy to fight the pandemic, Jair Bolsonaro strongly collaborated for COVID-19‘s spread in Brazilian territory” and hence can be concluded as “the main person responsible for the errors committed by the federal government during the pandemic.”
