On April 8, the actress and the creative director Dave McClain got married at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in the Santa Susana Mountains of California: ‘I love everything about him’
Bonnie Somerville said “I do” to the love of her life!
On April 8 at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in California’s Santa Susana Mountains, the 49-year-old actress, who has been on Blue Bloods, The O.C., NYPD Blue, and Friends, said “I do” to fiancé David McClain.
“I never believed in soulmates until I met Dave,” Somerville tells exclusively. “I love everything about him.” To the soundtrack of their favorite movie, Out of Africa, the bride’s mother Maureen led the bride down the aisle.
“She raised me alone so she’s my best friend and both mom and dad to me,” says Somerville. “She always jokes ‘Now I can die in peace!’ She loves Dave and they have an amazing bond. She calls him her son.”
Somerville said that while looking for a location for the couple’s wedding, she immediately realized the property was ideal. “I wanted a rustic, farmhouse European outdoor vibe,” she says. “It’s so beautiful with the vineyard and the mountains in the distance. It’s just stunning.”
His two daughters accompanied him down the aisle as they exchanged personal vows during the wedding ceremony, which McClain’s sister handled. Somerville, who had two “bridesmen” and eight bridesmaids, adds, “It’s unorthodox. His best man was a 30-year buddy of McClain’s.
After the wedding, guests participated in a cocktail hour with served appetizers such as chicken satay skewers, pigs in a blanket, mini poke bowls, and tomato soup cups with grilled cheese sandwiches. Filet mignon, halibut with pistachio crust, and vegetable risotto were served for the sit-down meal.
We desired extremely excellent cuisine, Somerville claims. In addition to the location and the music, “That was my biggest worry!” After dinner, a dessert table including Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches, cookies, and brownies, was available.
Ember Island’s version of “Umbrella” served as the backdrop for the bride and groom’s first dance. “When we first met it was two weeks before lock and we would just play music,” she recalls.
“Dave plays guitar and I sing. It was pretty much all we could do during lockdown! We both loved the song and the lyrics really are us,” she says.

The newlyweds surprised their guests with a little musical performance later in the evening. “Dave has never performed in front of a crowd,” she says. “I have a million times, but that’s a big part of our relationship and how we passed the time during the lockdown, so it’s fitting.”
Somerville met her husband for the first time through the dating app Bumble. “I hadn’t been on the app very long, and never checked in,” she explains. “I was shooting Blue Bloods and was showing an actor how the dating apps work and I randomly saw a message that this guy used his one-time extension to meet me.”
Bonnie Somerville, an actress from the Friends series, wed David McClain, saying, “I believe in true love now, it’s never too late.”
She continues: “There was 10 minutes left for me to reply. It was so random because had I not logged in to show my friend, I never would have met him! I saw his smile and said ‘I’m gonna swipe for this guy!’
We texted, then moved to an hour and a half call, then I got back to LA, we went out for our first date and that was that! I knew right away he was the one.”
Somerville claims that prior to meeting McClain, she was aware that she might not find love.
“I truly was at a place in my life where I was ok with the thought of being alone. After seeing all my friends get married years ago, and have children, and many failed relationships, and bad decisions, I made peace with the fact I might never meet ‘the one.’ And then I met Dave.”
For the two, falling in love came naturally. “I think you have more respect for what that means when you meet someone later in life, especially in your forties,” she says.
“We both enjoyed long and fulfilling lives. Dave previously wed. Having experienced a lot in life, I just think that at our age, at least for me, I appreciate this more than I would have previously.
Also, you don’t need to waste time because you are clear on what you need and want. We both had a feeling. After eight months, we got married. It was simply correct and simple.”
Somerville relishes every second of her blissful marriage with her new spouse. “He loves me for who I am and pushes me to be the best I can be,” she says. “I believe in true love now. It’s never too late.”
