Boat Collides With Fisher Island Ferry Resulting in Fatality and Injury

In the words of the US Coast Guard, a 30-foot boat struck the Fisher Island Ferry near Miami early on Sunday morning, ki!!ing one man and injuring another.

As reported by Ryan Estrada, a spokesman for the Coast Guard, the two men were on the boat that sank following the incident. The Coast Guard tweeted that the vessel was later recovered and taken away.

Initially, the North and South channels of the port were closed, making it difficult for some ships, notably cruise ships, to dock and load. PortMiami has since reopened, though.

In the words of port officials, three distinct cruise ships’ schedules were momentarily disturbed, and a “temporary safety zone” was created.

The PortMiami channel is closed due to a Sunday incident involving waterway transportation. PortMiami tweeted early on Sunday that the closure would affect passengers’ arrival and debarkation times on Carnival Celebration, MSC Seascape, and NCL Escape.

Three ferry boat crew members are “fine,” stated Estrada. CNN has contacted Miami Fire Rescue and the commission in charge of the investigation, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The three cruise ship firms that Miami Fire Rescue said were harmed by the incident were also contacted.

Carnival Cruise Line said, “We have been in direct contact with our guests and will continue to provide them updates as we learn more information from officials,” adding, “We’ll defer to officials with the USCG and the port for questions and other comments.”
