A superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is under production in the United States.
Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will produce and distribute the film, which is set to be the 30th feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the sequel to Black Panther (2018).
Filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, is behind the project, which stars Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Martin Freeman, among others.
There were already plans for a follow-up to Black Panther when the film was released in February 2018. Marvel Studios officially announced the sequel’s production in mid-2019 after Coogler agreed to return as director in the following months.
T’Challa’s character was not remade after Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer in August 2020, with Marvel deciding not to do so. At this point, the title had been revealed in May 2021, and other members of the original cast had been confirmed to return by November of that year.
Atlanta and Brunswick, Georgia and nearby Massachusetts were the locations of production from late June to early November of 2021, with a respite beginning later in the month. In late January 2022, filming will continue.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be published on November 11, 2022 in the United States as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
