According to the authorities, the shooter who carried out the mass shooting at Michigan State University last month, in which three students were killed and five others were gravely injured, stated in a note that was discovered in his pocket that he was “weary of being rejected” and that he was hurt.
According to a statement made by the authorities in a news release, the Michigan State University Police and Public Safety Department has revealed a comprehensive sequence of events and shared photographs of a note that the gunman, Anthony Dwayne McRae, 43, authored.
The document, which is two pages long and written on spiral notebook paper, bears a date that is one day prior to the shooting that took place on February 12. The police have withheld certain parts of it from public view.
At the beginning of one side of the message, the assailant introduces himself, saying, “Hello, My Name is Anthony McRae.” A second side begins with the words “They harmed me” at the top of the page, and then it lists the locations of many different parts that were targeted.
Following the discovery of the note, law enforcement officials “investigated and cleared all of the other locations McRae named in the note,” according to the police statement. In the note, McRae writes that he is the leader of a group of twenty people and claims that “another team” in his group will be targeting the other outlined locations.
“While McRae states in the note that he was acting with others, investigators from MSU DPPS, Michigan State Police, and the FBI have determined through comprehensive reviews and detailed follow-up that McRae acted alone and was not working with other people,” the statement from MSU DPPS said. “While McRae states in the note that he was acting with others, investigators from MSU DPPS, Michigan State Police, and the FBI have determined through comprehensive reviews and detailed follow-
McRae seems to be venting his frustrations in the letter by repeatedly writing “they hate me” and elaborating on other general, non-specific slights that he believes have been committed against him. For example, he writes, “I’m tired of being rejected,” “No one noticed me,” and “Everywhere I go, people treat me differently.”
