Apple is raising prices for the first time for its Apple Music and Apple TV+ subscription services.

Apple TV+ will cost $6.99 per month for both new and current subscribers in the U.S. That’s a 40% increase from its original price of $4.99 per month when it first came out in November 2019.

The individual plan for Apple Music is going up from $9.99 to $10.99 per month. The family plan, which can be used by up to six people, is going up $2, from $14.99 to $16.99 per month. It’s the first time the service’s prices have gone up since it started in June 2015.

Also, starting Monday, Oct. 24, the price of the Apple One bundle, which includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+, will go up by $2, from $14.95 to $16.95 per month for the individual plan (with 50 gigabytes of storage). The top-tier premier plan, which went from $29.95/month to $32.95/month, gives up to six accounts access to Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ with up to 2 terabytes, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+.

During an interview with Variety, a representative from the firm shared the following information regarding Apple TV+: “We debuted Apple TV+ at a very cheap price because we started with just a few series and movies.” Now, three years later, Apple TV+ is home to an enormous range of award-winning and generally regarded programs, feature films, and documentaries, as well as children’s and family entertainment from some of the world’s most creative storytellers.

The increased pricing of Apple Song plans was justified by the company by citing greater music licensing fees. “The switch to Apple Music was necessary as a result of an increase in license prices; thus, musicians and songwriters would earn more money from the streaming of their music.” According to a representative from Apple, “We also continue to develop creative features that make Apple Music the best listening experience in the world.”

There are currently dozens of original titles available on Apple TV+. Some of these titles include the 2022 Oscar winner for best picture, “CODA;” the Emmy-winning series “Ted Lasso;” series such as “Shantaram,” starring Charlie Hunnam and based on the best-selling novel, as well as “Severance,” “Bad Sisters,” “Mythic Quest,” and “Pachinko;” and documentary films such as “Sidney In addition, Major League Baseball’s “Friday Night Baseball” live games are shown on Apple TV+, and the company has agreed to transmit Major League Soccer matches beginning in the early part of 2023.

The biggest competitor for Apple Music, which has a collection that contains more than 100 million songs, is Spotify, which, for the time being, is still priced in the United States at $9.99 per month (individual) and $15.99 per month (family).

Apple is continuing its practice of providing customers who purchase particular new goods with specific free promotional codes for Apple Music and Apple TV+. It provides free three months of Apple TV+ with the purchase of a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, or Mac; and it provides free six months of Apple Music with the purchase of qualifying AirPods earbuds, Beats headphones, or HomePod speakers. Both of these offers are valid for a limited time.
