On Wednesday, President Donald Trump extended his pardoning spree by pardoning Charles Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, the senior advisor at the White House and Trump’s son-in-law.
The elder Kushner was found guilty in 2005 of filing false tax returns, harassing witnesses, and lying to the Federal Election Commission. He entered a guilty plea and was imprisoned for two years.
In the press release profiling the 26 new pardons, and three commutations announced on Wednesday – including GOP strategist Roger Stone and Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort – the White House said that
“since completing his sentence in 2006, Mr. Kushner has been devoted to important philanthropic organizations and causes.”
One of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes
Kushner Company was established in 1985 by Charles Kushner and his father. Before being given a prison sentence in 2005, Charles managed the real estate business in New York City.
Prosecutors started looking into him for making unauthorized campaign contributions in 2003. At the time, his brother-in-law and former business partner William Schulder had helped them with their investigation.

Charles hired an s*x worker to attempt to entice Schulder and have a se*ual encounter with him after learning of Schulder’s cooperation. Charles had a concealed camera capture the attempt. As retaliation, he gave the videos to Schulder’s wife.
Charles ultimately entered a guilty plea to 16 tax evasion charges, one act of retaliation against a federal witness, and one count of misleading the FEC.
According to the Real Deal, he served a 14-month prison term in Alabama, where his family paid him a weekly visit.
Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, said on PBS’s “Firing Line” in 2019 that the case against Charles Kushner was “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted.”

Jared has frequently stood up for Charles despite his father’s admission of guilt.
Jared told New York Magazine in 2009: “His siblings stole every piece of paper from his office and took it to the government. Siblings that he made wealthy for doing nothing.
He gave them an interest in the business for nothing. All he did was put the tape together and send it. Was it the right thing to do? At the end of the day, it was a function of saying, ‘You’re trying to make my life miserable? Well, I’m doing the same.'”
Jared wed Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter, in the same year. They both worked as White House advisers for the duration of Trump’s administration. Before serving in the White House, Kusher
“transferred large portions of his real estate holdings and the New York Observer to a family trust overseen by his mother, Seryl, and sold additional assets to his brother Joshua,” CNN reported.
Before and during Charles and Jared’s tenures, the scandal has long surrounded Kushner Enterprises.
Jared sold off many of his holdings after becoming the CEO in 2008 and bought 666 Fifth Avenue, a mixed-use structure that has been the subject of numerous grievances and inquiries.
According to Town and Country, Kushner Companies acknowledged that the US attorney in Brooklyn had served a subpoena on the business in 2018 about sponsoring a scheme that permitted foreigners to invest $500,000 to expedite their path to US citizenship and residency.
In August 2018, Kushner Companies sold the building. Also, Jared Kushner owns several apartment buildings in the Baltimore region that have been the subject of long-running allegations of housing violations and poor management.
