Free Performances
The New York State Fair’s Chevrolet Music Series features free concerts for all fairgoers. In other words, for this year’s admission ticket of $3 to the New York State Fair, you can attend any of the fair’s many concerts. (Parking is extra, but you can also take the Centro Park-N-Ride bus, an Uber/Lyft, or the Amtrak to get to the fairgrounds.)
Two concerts every day will be held in Chevy Park and Chevy Court, with additional performances on regional stages dotted across the fairgrounds. It is possible to catch all four events in a single day, as concerts take place at Chevy Park at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and at Chevy Court at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
What Location Do Chevy Park And Chevy Court Have?
In its previous incarnation as the “New York Experience Stage,” Chevy Park will host the most anticipated concerts of the 2018 New York State Fair. You’ll find Chevy Park beyond the Midway and beyond the Expo Center on the western end of the fairgrounds, close to Gate 10. Gate 6 is conveniently located near parking, however, Gates 1, 2, and 3 require a long walk through all the rides and around a small pond.
Near Gate 1, near the Center of Progress Building and the Dairy Products Building is where you’ll find Chevy Court. Both feature seating, however, larger shows may require you to stand (or dance) for the duration of the event.
There are contemporary stage equipment and fantastic sound at Chevy Park, a significantly larger venue than Chevy Court. A nice spot at the front is recommended for seeing the performances, but anyone within sight of the stage will have a terrific experience with the sound.
Both stages provide convenient access to concessions and beer gardens, and there are a number of washrooms spread out over the fairgrounds.

Friday, August 26th, @ 8 p.m., Chevy Park, TLC:
A retro dance party is planned as the final event of Pride Day. One of the most successful girl groups of the ’90s, TLC fused pop, hip-hop, and R&B on such chart-topping singles as “Creep,” “Waterfalls,” “Unpretty,” and “No Scrubs.”
In this case, Rozonda “Chilli” and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins Since Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’s death in 2002, Thomas has continued to perform under the TLC moniker. Thomas, along with Watkins, produced the biopic “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” in 2013 and released a new album titled “TLC” in 2017.
Sunday, August 28th, 6:00 PM, Chevy Court: Bryce Vine:
This one is for the millennials and college students who use TikTok: Taking cues from artists as diverse as 2Pac and Outkast, Third Eye Blind, and J. Cole, rapper, and vocalist Bryce Vine noted for his unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, electronic, and alternative rock. Among his many chart-topping singles are “Drew Barrymore,” “Sour Patch Kids,” “La La Land” (with YG), and “I’m Not Alright” (also featuring Loud Luxury).
Come Out To Chevy Park On Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. For a Performance By Foreigner:
Last year, Foreigner’s show in Chevy Park drew an audience of over 21,000. Three factors suggest that this year’s show could attract an even larger crowd. For one, people are less anxious in large groups than they were in August 2021, when not all age groups had access to the Covid vaccine.
Two, parents may get major points with their offspring by taking them to see Bryce Vine at Chevy Court at 6 p.m. and then Foreigner. And third, classic hits like “Hot Blooded,” “Cold as Ice,” and “Feels Like the First Time” remain potent.
Tuesday, August 30 at 6 p.m., Chevy Court Will Host Big & Rich With Special Guest Cowboy Troy:
Listening to tunes like “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” “Lost in This Moment,” “Fake ID,” “Rollin,” and “Look at You,” fans of country music are sure to have a good time at Big and Rich. Cowboy Troy, who is most well-known for his hick-hop smash “I Play Chicken with the Train” (with Big & Rich), will be joining in on the action.
Performance By Boy George and Culture Club at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, August 30 At Chevy Park:
The success of “Stranger Things” has made music from the 1980s more popular than it has ever been. The 1980s may be the only exception. Music by Boy George & Culture Club, including the singles “Karma Chameleon,” “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” “It’s a Miracle,” and “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya,” as well as George’s androgynous fashion sense, are well-known.
Boy George told his 17,900 Fair 2016 audience members to “Dance like nobody’s watching, love as you’ve never been wounded — and dress like it’s Halloween” during their performance on Chevy Court.
Performs At Chevy Park on Wednesday, August 31 at 8 p.m., With Nelly:
The 33,713 people that showed up to see the “Hot in Herre” rapper at Chevy Park last year make him one of the 10 largest crowds in the history of the New York State Fair’s concert series, so of course, he’s returning this year. His new approach puts the country into “Country Grammar” on songs like “Lil Bit” (featuring Florida Georgia Line) and “High Horse,” while also including his fan-favorite 2000s party smashes (“Ride wif Me,” “Dilemma,” “Shake Your Tailfeather,” “E.I.,” etc). (with Breland and Blanco Brown). Tim McGraw’s “Over and Over” comes to mind. Sure, that stuff.

24kGoldn Is Scheduled For 8 p.m. on Friday, September 2 At Chevy Park:
It’s hardly surprising that this year’s NYS Fair is focusing on hip-hop given that rap acts have drawn five of the 15 largest crowds at NYS Fair concerts in the past, surpassing country (2), classic rock (4), and pop (3). What may come as a surprise, though, is that 24kGoldn is, at least according to streaming sites, the most popular act on the 2022 bill. His 2020 smash “Mood” (with Iann Dior) has been streamed more than 1.5 billion times, and he presently averages 16.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify (Nelly is a close second with 16.3 million).
Saturday, September 3 at 8 p.m. — Dropkick Murphys:
Dropkick Murphys are back for the fourth year in a row, and that means everyone’s favorite songs like “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” “Rose Tattoo,” and “Tessie” will be performed once again. After winning over Central New York with 2018’s tribute to Syracuse native Bill Dineen (a hero in the Boston Americans’ 1903 World Series win) and 2021’s toast to iconic Syracuse barkeeper Peter Coleman, the Celtic punk band drew 30,200 fans in 2019, making it one of the 15 largest crowds in NYS Fair concert history.
Attend “City Girls” At 8 O’clock On Sunday, September 4 In Chevy Park:
According to the slang of today’s youth, this one is going to blow up. The Fair will be transformed into a nightclub by the Miami rap duo Yung Miami and JT, who will perform such club classics as “Act Up,” “Twerk” (with Cardi B), “Twerkulator,” and the extremely NSFW “P—-y Talk” (with Doja Cat). Drake (“In My Feelings”), Usher (“Good Love”), Juicy J, Saweetie, and Megan Thee Stallion are just some of the musicians they’ve worked with.

7 Big-Time Performances At The New York State Fair
Not every performance will have a resounding audience. It’s in part due to the festival’s ambitious schedule (over 40 performances in just 13 days) and the wide range of musical styles represented. Everything from contemporary hip-hop (The Art of Rap featuring Ice-T) and country (David Nail and ERNEST) to classic rock (Chevelle) and oldies (Chubby Checker and Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone) are all represented.
These are some of the most highly recommended shows, regardless of attendance numbers:
On The 24th Of August At 1 pm At Chevy Court, Steven Page:
Singer and former member of the band Barenaked Ladies whose successes include “One Week,” “The Old Apartment,” and “Brian Wilson.” This is a homecoming performance and the opening concert of the 2022 New York State Fair: Page is originally from Canada, but after more than a decade of living in the Syracuse region, he has embraced his new identity as a “full-on Central New Yorker” and regularly brings his family to the New York State Fair. While quarantined in Manlius, he kept singing through online performances even as the virus spread.
This week’s installment of the Jimmie Allen concert series will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24 at Chevy Court.
Jimmie Allen, a country artist who played at the New York State Fair in 2019 and went on to win New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards in 2021 and New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards in 2022, is another great opening day show. The “Best Shot” singer also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist this year.
Patti LaBelle will perform at Chevy Court on Wednesday, August 31 at 6 p.m.
Women’s Day will feature a performance by the soul music icon. She has had numerous R&B singles as a solo artist, including “You Are My Friend,” “New Attitude,” and “Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is).”
Friday, September 2nd, at 1:00 PM, Chevy Court Will Host Tai Verdes:
The chill California singer-“Stuck songwriter’s in the Middle” single went viral on TikTok in 2020, and his breakthrough smashes “A-O-K” peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been heard over 200 million times on Spotify since its release in 2019.
Gin Blossoms, September 2nd, 6 pm, Chevy Court:
See Gin Blossoms if you’re a member of Generation X and a fan of alternative rock from the ’90s; you’ll want to belt out “Hey Jealousy,” “Follow You Down,” “Found Out About You,” and the “Empire Records” favorite, “Til I Hear It From You.”
Saturday, September 3rd, 8:30 p.m., Chevy Court, Midnight Star:
Get ready to groove to “No Parking (On the Floor),” “Freak-A-Zoid,” “Operator,” “Tuff,” “Body Snatchers,” and more as the iconic funk band closes up the all-day Syracuse JAMS FunkFest at Chevy Court.
Dire Straits Legacy At 6 p.m. On Monday, September 5th At Chevy Park:
At the end of Labor Day weekend, enjoy a throwback to the 1970s and 1980s with songs like “Sultans of Swing,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and the early MTV favorite, “Money for Nothing.” As a continuation of the British rock band’s tradition, DSL features original members of Dire Straits as well as Trevor Horn (of “Video Killed the Radio Star” fame, from The Buggles).
