Environmentalists today attached drop down emergency oxygen masks like you get on an aeroplane, to a city-centre bus stop to highlight the fact that Leeds has the most air-polluted street outside of London.

They were attached by an air-pollution environmental campaign team to a central bus stop in an attempt to highlight climate change issues and air pollution problems caused by heavy traffic in the city centre.

Nevill Street, next to Infirmary Street where the masks were attached, is recognised by Friends of the Earth as the most polluted street outside of London.

Leeds City Council declined to comment.
