U.S. officials reported late Friday that a non-combat rollover acc!dent in Kuwait claimed the life of an American soldier.

Spc. Jayson Reed Haven, 20, of Aiken, South Carolina, pαssed away on Thursday at Camp Buehring in Kuwait’s northwest desert due to a rollover acc!dent outside a combat zone about 20 miles from Iraq’s southern border.

The U.S. Department of Defense released a statement saying the deαdly incident is still being investigated. There was no instant availability of more information.

Haven’s passing was announced just a few days before Memorial Day. It is a federal holiday to remember and pay respects to those who have d!ed while serving in the American armed forces.

Maj. Gen. Van McCarty told the Aiken Standard, the local publication in Haven’s hometown, “There are no words that can adequately express how deeply saddened I am at the loss of one of our own.” “SPC Jayson R. Haven was more than just a member of the South Carolina National Guard; he was family.”

As a machine gunner in the South Carolina National Guard, Haven had won numerous medals and honors. He was given a position in Charleston-based Company B, 1st Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
